On a warm, but damp Wednesday evening, 32 members, spouses and partners enjoyed an evening of friendly competition at the Shoulder of Mutton in Strumpshaw. For some this was their first time at paying boules (or Petanque as it is also known). Other were more experienced. To balance this out and to ensure that a full round of matches could be played, we used modified rules and played for 15 minutes per game. After a couple of hours playing, we moved into the Shoulder of Mutton for a very pleasant buffet and conversation.
The evening finished with everybody tucking in to an excellent buffet supplied by the pub. A great time was had by all, and special thanks must go to the organisers Hilary Hammond, Mike Josey and David Brooks
