Rotary Club of Norwich
Picture
BACKGROUND
The Rotary Club of Norwich first met informally on 18th January 1922 and was formally chartered on 1st July 1922.    It is the oldest Club in District 1080 covering Norfolk, Suffolk, most of Cambridgeshire and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire.   On 19th January 2012, rather than the traditional Charter Evening, the Club broke with tradition and celebrated its 90th Anniversary with a social evening with dancing from around the world to demonstrate the new face of Rotary.   Over one hundred attended and most participated in the Ceilidh at the end. While initially the Club was male only the Club has been dual gender for 20 years and already has had two female presidents and the majority of our newer members are female.
ROTARY IN NORWICH
Whilst being the oldest Club in Norwich, the Club has been active in developing Rotary in the city and there are now seven Clubs,  the newest one, Rotary Centenary being formed in Rotary Centenary Year, 2005.   The Club frequently joins with the other Clubs in Norwich, and  the immediate surroundings to put on joint activities such as working with young people and raising money for good causes.

CLUB STRUCTURE
The Club has a President who presides over Club Council Meetings is elected by Club Members and serves for 12 months, usually from the 1st July each year.  He/she is supported by the Senior Vice President who will serve as President the following year, and a Junior Vice President who will serve the year after.   The Club ensures continuity by selecting the Junior Vice President six months before they are due to take office, giving them 30 months to plan for their period as president. The Club is governed by the Club Council which usually meets every 6 - 8 weeks, and consists of the President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, Immediate Past President, the Chairs of the various Club Committees and any other members the Club deems relevant.   Currently the Club has the following Committees, details of the activities of which may be found by clicking on the appropriate button on the left, or the underlined link:

Club Council
The club is run by a 'Council' made up of the President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and a number of representatives from various club committees and organising teams. The Council meets usually six times a year.
